Many Michigan barbershoppers are also members of the Extreme Quartetting organization the Indiana Harmony Brigade. Joe Queen hosts a get together of these Michiganders for fun and camaraderie to sing together the music they had been learning in preparation for singing in November with the IHB. This year Joe was invited to bring his group to Detroit-Oakland chapter member Jack Day's Annual Woodward Dream Cruise Party. Jack's event, '1825 Overture', is sponsored, organized, and run by various Clubs during the different times & days of Cruise Week. They've always welcomed Barbershoppers who will take the stage and entertain the crowd. www.woodwarddreamcruise.com "The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world's largest one-day celebration of classic car culture that attracts over 1 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles. It takes place along a 16-mile stretch of legendary Woodward Avenue through Metro Detroit." *Although the Woodward Dream Cruise officially took place Saturday August 15th, Woodward was packed with spectators and classic cars when we were there Friday night.
Jack Day (to Joe Queen): Why not move your whole party down here! We've got a sound system with (4) mics, mixer, monitors, lights, etc. just begging for some barbershop chords. We'll make a CD of every set so you can hear what you did! There will be collector cars on display, a viewing tent/bleachers down at Woodward, outdoor movies (after dark), etc and plenty of room to relax in comfort.
Joe Queen (to Harmony Brigade): I just got back from stopping by to say hello to Jack and his wife, Nanette; their place is AWESOME! He'll have the party started at 3:00 PM so you can show up anytime after that. He's pretty pumped that we're coming! I also learned that FULL THROTTLE (local quartet - Jim Ryan is in it) is going to be there performing some time in the evening.
Joe Queen (to Jack afterwards): On behalf of the fall 2009 Indiana Harmony Brigade guys that came to your place, I'd like to say "THANKS!" Mike Baribeau also sent his comments to the group and I was glad to see that he thought the 2.5 hour drive to get there was well worth it! He'll be sending a link to photos that he took. We all had a terrific time singing on stage for the guests and in various areas around the sun porch and yard. The wives enjoyed walking down to the corner to sit and watch the Cruisino and the kids loved the backyard swings, playhouse (and the ice creams)! You and Nanette were wonderful hosts. Please pass along our heartfelt gratitude to her as well.
